In Georgia, they do not consistently dot their is, but the ts are always crossed.
I think it happened something like this:
Governor: Gentlemen, we've exceeded the state budget by 7.3 trillion dollars. What can we do?
Senator: Let's not dot the is.
Governor: Brllllant! You get a ralse.
LOL! Very observant of you! I'll have to start paying attention to our road signs in VA. If they're wasting our hard-earned tax dollars on i dots, why I'll.....
ReplyDeleteThe i dot issue will be a campaign platform during election year!
ReplyDeleteI lived in Georgia for years and never noticed this! Hmm. I wonder if we dot the i's in Florida. Perhaps I should pay more attention to signs.
ReplyDelete(I loved your cat story by the way!)
snm,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your compliment on the cat story!
We should totally start a grass movement concerning the i dots. I mean, if Georgia's saving all that money . . .
Hi, Danette - found you on the blue boards. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteWe were just down in Seaside, OR this weekend, and seriously, every professionally done, permanent sign we saw, had apostrophes to indicate plural words. Hotel outside signs, product signs, all of them.
Thank you, Lobster Dude!
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked as a technical writer, I had to struggle to convince engineers and scientists that plurals are not made with apostrophes, and possessive its does not have an apostrophe. The apostrophe became my soapbox!
Hee. Great post. Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've got more signs coming later.
